Embark on an enriching classical journey in Conservatory 1, where students begin studying Vaganova’s Level 1 syllabus which includes barre, center and par terre work in a kind and nurturing environment. This class is designed for dancers who possess the necessary strength, flexibility and internal work ethic that are typically built over 1-2 years of Pre-Conservatory. However, beginners who demonstrate a strong desire and physical aptitude may also be considered. All Conservatory class sizes are kept small to ensure a healthy, close-knit community where each student can build a close relationship with their teacher and each other.
The weekly schedule for Conservatory 1 students includes two ballet classes with par terre work, one contemporary class and one repertoire class. In this first year of repertoire students have the opportunity to learn group and solo etudes which provide context for their classwork, as well as be exposed to famous ballets, composers, and other dance history elements to inspire the development of well-rounded artists.
Dancers will perform in our Christmas Showcase (wearing uniforms) and Spring Production (wearing purchased costumes) as well as several other opportunities. The school year culminates with a supportive and structured exam to measure progress and determine advancement. Conservatory dancers are expected to maintain their training hours for a minimum of 6 weeks through the summer.
Conservatory classes are registered for the entire weekly requirements at one time. Registering for this class includes the following schedule:
