Description

Intro to Hip-Hop | Ages 10–13

Come dance, have fun, and use the gifts God has given you! This beginner hip-hop class is designed for dancers ages 10–13 who want to explore the basics of hip-hop in a fun and encouraging environment. Throughout the nine weeks, students will learn basic hip-hop movements, rhythm, musicality, and fun choreography while growing in confidence, creativity, and teamwork. No previous dance experience is needed!

We’ll focus on trying new things, expressing ourselves, and growing in confidence. Most importantly, this class is about having fun, finding your own style, and becoming more comfortable and confident on the dance floor!

Michael Swalley

Michael is a born-again son of God, saved at a young age and is passionate to see both the church and nuclear family strengthened. Michael has been married to Ellen for fifteen years. They have four kids, all involved in CYT: Emmy (13); Shay (12), Jovie (10) and Eli (8). Michael is the Executive Director of a ministry called Break Free. They seek to fuel generational healing through gospel identity in urban areas. They work within the global Hip-Hop community. Michael loves spending time with his family, and if he has the chance, he enjoys reading with a good cup of coffee.

Ellen Swalley

Ellen has been involved with CYT since the Fall of 2021, when her oldest daughter first took a class! She has previously taught a Hair &Wig class, been the Lead on Hair/Wig teams for multiple shows, lead the Photography team for multiple shows and is currently serving as a HYPE advisor along with her husband, Michael. She’s so excited to partner with him in offering this hip-hop class (after all, she taught him everything he knows…just seeing if anyone’s reading this) and get to know even more students at CYT!
