Students chosen for the Show Choir will be able to register after auditions are complete.

CYT Show Choir
Show Choir is a high-energy, performance-focused class for teens who love to sing, dance, and perform! Students will tackle challenging vocal arrangements, choreography, harmonies, and full-out performance numbers while developing vocal technique, dance skills, musicianship, stage presence, confidence, and ensemble skills.
This is an intensive class that combines singing and dancing throughout rehearsals. Students should be prepared to learn choreography quickly, sing while moving, work as an ensemble, and bring energy and commitment to every rehearsal.

Audition Requirements: *Auditions are on Wednesday, October 21st from 5:00-6:30*

Vocal Audition - Please prepare the following:

1. 30-Second Song Excerpt w/ a Karaoke/Backing Track
  • Choose a song that fits your voice comfortably. Select a section that showcases both your vocals and your personality.
  • Pick a portion that allows you to demonstrate your range, tone, dynamics, and emotion.
2. The Star-Spangled Banner — A Cappella
  • You will sing the beginning of The Star-Spangled Banner a cappella, starting on a note of your choice.
  • You will sing through the phrase: “O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming.”
  • This portion helps us hear your ability to find and maintain pitch, sing independently, and demonstrate vocal control.
3. Group Harmony
  • You will learn a short, simple harmony with the full audition group. After learning it together, you will perform the harmony in quartets.
  • This gives us an opportunity to hear how you blend, listen, learn, and sing as part of an ensemble.
Movement/Dance Audition: Students will learn a short dance combination on the audition day, and perform it for the directors.

Session & Schedule Commitment
Show Choir will meet at the same scheduled time throughout both the winter and spring Sessions of CYT. Students who are accepted into the class should plan to commit to the class for both sessions so that we can build a strong, consistent ensemble and continue developing our repertoire and performance skills throughout the year. Students chosen for the Show Choir will need to sign up for the winter session class ($250) and then the spring session class ($250). In addition to this cost, there will be a costume cost and if performances are scheduled in the summer there may be a cost to cover the summer rehearsals leading up to a performance.
There will also be occasional weekend rehearsals as needed. These rehearsals will be scheduled in advance as we prepare for performances and polish more challenging material.
Show Choir will perform in the CYT Showcases at the end of each class session. Performance opportunities will also be added as they become available. These may include community events, CYT events, and other performance opportunities. Families should be prepared for additional performance dates to be added to the schedule.

Important Dance Schedule Note
Students who are enrolled in Cultivate Dance classes immediately before or after Show Choir are expected to attend their full dance class and should not skip class or leave early because of Show Choir.

Come prepared to sing, move, learn, work hard, and have fun! Show Choir is for performers who are ready to challenge themselves, support their ensemble, and bring their full energy to the stage.
